Bad Astronomy magazine ad

A magazine ad concept for Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy lecture, which seeks to educate people about astronomy and correct common misconceptions they might have. The idea was to humorously illustrate a celestial object in such a way that it was not only inaccurate, but also "bad" or "evil" in a lighthearted way, as a play on words. In this case, the subject was Galle, a crater on Mars that actually looks like a smiley face in real life. I simply added in angry eyebrows and turned the smile into a frown to complete the main image. I also redesigned the logo.
